Green it on the international agenda in Denmark

The OECD-countries meet to discuss the challenges that ICT faces in combating the climate changes.

This takes place when the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation hosts the OECD-conference “ICTs, the Environment and Climate Change” in Elsinore from the 27th – 28th May 2009.

It is the first time ever that OECD arranges such a big conference with the purpose to discuss the use of the information- and communication technology compared to environmental improvements and the combat against climate change. The goal of the conference is to develop policytools and analyses regarding ICT and the environmental effort.

The conference is opened 27th of May by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Helge Sander, and the Secretary-General of the OECD, Angel Gurria. During the two days of the conference about 200 participants will be able to follow presentations about how ICT can be as well a contributor toward climate change as a solution hereto.

Esko Aho (Executive Vice President, Nokia, and the earlier prime minister in Finland), Botaro Hirosaki (Senior Executive Vice President, NEC) and Taegun Hyung (Commissioner, Korea Communications Commission) will be among those speakers, who are going to launch the conference by defining the environmental challenges.

Other speakers will include:
• Vice President in USA’s National Science Foundation, Jeannette Wing
• Microsofts environmental strategist, Rob Bernard
• The leader of Hong Kongs Innovation- and Technology Agency, Eddy Y. T. Chan
• Deutsche Telecoms Vice President with responsibility for sustainability and climate conditions, Ignacio Campino
