Dr. Botaro Hirosaki

Dr. Botaro Horisaki
worked as a researcher at NEC’s Central Research Laboratories for more
than 25 years immediately after graduating from the University of
Tokyo.
He was then appointed the general manager of the Transmission Division in 1997.
Since being assigned an associate senior vice president of the Optical Network Operations Unit in 2000, he has played several other senior management roles at NEC. These have included senior vice president of the Intellectual Asset Operations Unit in 2003, chief information officer in 2005, and the executive vice president of the Carrier Network Business Unit as well as its overseas business in 2006.
He is currently responsible for the overall management of NEC as a senior executive vice president and member of the board.
He received an MSE degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Princeton University and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Tokyo. He has also had the honour of being an IEEE fellow since 1966.
